Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer
The
Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer was created in 1884 by Víctor Balaguer i Cirera, who donated it to the city of Vilanova. Since then an important number of works have been on permanent loan from the Museo del Prado, which are periodically renewed.
In addition to its original collections, which are one of the most important points of reference for gaining insight into the development of nineteenth-century art, the library also houses relevant exotic collections-Egyptian, Philippine, Oriental, pre-Columbian-, as well as collections of decorative arts, sculpture, glass, ceramics, archaeology, weapons, jewellery, numismatics... Finally, by means of a chronological itinerary, the visitor can trace the development of Catalan painting from 1900 to 1960, with very representative works of the
Modernista, Noucentista and Informalist periods.
