Apart from monographs and periodical publications, the Library has three collections that must be mentioned. On one hand, the group of documents that make up the reserve formed, basically, by works published before 1900 and manuscripts. On the other hand, especially interesting are the press archive and the collection of small exhibition catalogues, two sections that often complement the information contained in the rest of the material.
The reserve material comprises manuscripts, incunabula, works published before 1900, bindings and bibliophile's editions.
The collection of manuscripts is especially interesting as it contains originals by artists and theorists in the art of our country in the 19th and 20th centuries and numerous hand-written documents by various personalities. It conserves incunabula such as the Crónica Nuremberg of 1493 and a history of the Roman Empire by Flavio Biondo, dated 1484. The main collections of bindings in the Library come from the Riquer acquisition and the Toda and Marçal de Carvajal bequests, without forgetting the books with bindings dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Mention must be made of the collection of magazines from the Modernista period, Noucentisme and the avant-garde for its importance and singularity.
This material comprises about 15,000 thematic dossiers with news items of artistic interest appearing in the country's press, as the result of a task of selection carried out since the Library's beginnings. Chronologically speaking, the news items in the archive are from the early 20th century to the present day.
Over the years, an exhaustive process of taking cuttings from the papers and magazines that were delivered to the centre has taken place, extracting all the information related to art, exhibitions, artists, museums, auctions, patrimony, etc., and to the history of Barcelona, with the aim of being able to offer users detailed information that is often difficult to find in other sources.
This section includes the small catalogues and ephemera relative to art exhibitions: hand-held catalogues, cards and invitations to exhibitions held in art galleries in Barcelona, Catalonia, the rest of Spain and abroad.
It constitutes an archive of about 40,000 dossiers approximately and is documentary material of interest for research into the country's art scene during the 20th century.
