The museum is extending its opening hours until 8 pm in summer and will close at 6 pm in winter
From 1 January 2013, admission to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya will be free on Saturday afternoons from 3 pm until closing time, as well as still being free on the first Sunday of every month. In addition, it has been decided that unemployed people will benefit from free admission. With these measures, the annual opening hours with free admission for the public to the Museu Nacional goes from 3.54% to 11.9%.
As from 2013, the Museu Nacional will also adapt its opening hours to the seasons and to its users’ habits, closing at 6 pm in winter and 8 pm in summer, so as to make the most of the potential offered by the museum’s location during the summer months.
In line with our wish to become a setting for quality and participation and a public meeting place, these measures are intended to facilitate access to the Museu Nacional for all citizens and, especially, for young people and students. To this same end the museum will be adding to its programme of activities on Saturday afternoons.
At the same time, taking into account its location in Barcelona, a tourist destination of the first magnitude, the Board of Patrons has approved a modification of the general admission price, which increases to 12 €, which is more in line with the rates of other European museum institutions. This increase will only affect the 28% of visitors who pay the full admission, since out of the total number of visitors to the museum each year almost 50% benefit from free admission and 22% from reduced price admission.
