MUSEUM NIGHT AND DAY
This year, Museum Day and Museum Night fall on the same date, Saturday 18 May, when the museum will be open from 10 am to 1 am: 15 hours to visit the whole of the museum for free!

In the morning, visit our exhibitions devoted to Ortiz Echagüe and Marià Fortuny. You can also take part in the initiative by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, ‘A Jewel in the Museum’, which lets you create or enlarge the Wikipedia article on Fortuny’s Odalisque. You can also contribute to the ‘Ideal Museum of Catalonia’ by sharing images of our works on the Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest accounts of the General Directorate.

In the evening, performances of music – ‘Jazz & Swing’, by the Eva Fernández Group of the Taller de Musics–, comments on the masterpieces in the collection, activities for boys and girls like the ‘Enigmas of the Museu Nacional’ and a novelty in the collection, a room devoted to ‘The New Avant-garde. Photographs of the 1950s and 1960s’.

Then there’s the terrace open for drinks with the finest views you can get of Barcelona, the offer in food and drink, sale of books at bargain prices...

We also suggest you take photographs of the Night, label them #bcnesmuseu and post them on Twitter or Instagram. They’ll be published on the web site www.bcn.cat/fotomobil.

NOTE: Because of the Motor Show, Avinguda Maria Cristina will be closed to cars and pedestrians. To get to the museum, either take the bus (13, 55, 150) or else walk (Carrer Lleida or Carrer Mèxic).

Do you want to be sponsor?

If you’d like to repeat what happened in 1922 with The Spanish Wedding and help make a work by Mariano Fortuny part of our heritage, you can make a donation to buy the drawing The Prayer between us all. To date we have collected 14,500 €. Many thanks to all the donors!

You can see the work in the rooms of the exhibition ‘Fortuny’s Battle of Tetouan. From the Trench to the Museum’.

A micro-patronage initiative promoted by the Friends of the MNAC.

Strategic digital presentation at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya

‘The Image of the Hero in Catalan Sculpture (1800-1850)’
We are launching a new project in the rooms of the modern art collection thanks to a partnership with Barcelona University’s GRACMON (Research Group into the History of Contemporary Art and Design).

This is a dialogue between 19th-century sculptures and drawings by fine art students, with the subject of the hero as the ‘leitmotiv’. It will be on show at the Museu Nacional and at the same time at the Reial Acadèmia de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi, the Museu Frederic Marès and the Museu Víctor Balaguer in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

The show will be open from 31 May to 27 October in rooms 42 and 44 of the museum.

‘For the Love of Art: Film and painting’. Change of venue
Please note: The film scheduled for 4 June, Jackson Pollock: An American Saga, originally planned for the Museu Nacional, will be screened at the Filmoteca de Catalunya after all.

This is not the last film in the cycle. On the occasion of the exhibition ‘Fortuny’s Battle of Tetouan’, there will be a screening of the film Arabian Nights on Tuesday 11 June, also at the Filmoteca.
Watercolour workshop in collaboration with the Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc
On Wednesday 5 June, registered attendants at the watercolour workshop of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc will be able to visit the exhibition 'The Battle of Tetouan' in the company of one of the curators and can practise the watercolour technique observing the works of Fortuny.

The closing session of the workshop on 10 July will also be held in the museum. The remaining sessions of the course will take place at the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc.

Course with the Esmuc: ‘Music and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya'
Works of art can be very musical. And this is precisely the idea of the course to be held at the Museu Nacional from 1 to 5 July. On the basis of a selection of works from different artistic periods, a relationship will be sought with music, either observing the instruments depicted or studying contemporary music in the work of art.
